The Glasgow Canal Regeneration Partnership (GCRP) has unveiled a £100m regeneration project around the historic Speirs Lock canal in Glasgow.
Proposals for the scheme will see the 30 acre area around the canal make space for 100,00 sq ft of offices, 250 homes and community facilities. The project aims to combine an urban framework with the existing natural landscape, creating a ‘Balcony for the City.
'Unique waterside environment’
The GCRP, which receives funding support from the Scottish Government and Scottish Enterprise Glasgow, ran a 10 month consultation exercise with more than 300 people in preparation for the project.
Gary Watts from the GCRP has said that the aim was to create ‘places where residents can mix with tourists and businesses to enjoy the unique waterside environment’.
The scheme was designed by Make Architects, landscape and regeneration consultancy Kevin Murray Associates.
