Manor Kingdom, the Scottish house-builder owned by Gladedale's Remo Dipre, has been granted planning consent to develop the first five star hotel in the Scottish Borders.

Subsidiary company Manor Kingdom Estates was granted consent for a 150-bed hotel to be known as Rutherford Castle.

Manor Kingdom will invest £50m in the hotel which will include a spa and leisure club, cafes, a restaurant, a whisky lounge, a wine cellar and a ballroom.

The existing Rutherford Castle golf course will also be updated.

Construction is expected to start in early 2009.

Manor Kingdom is owned by the Dipre, who also owns housebuilder Gladedale.
