Henry Boot and Commercial Estates Group have got the go ahead for 30-acre housing and employment development in Bowburn, near Durham.

Following a four-day planning inquiry, the Secretary of State gave the go ahead for the brownfield site, which has been derelict since 1993, to become offices and 250 homes.


Hallam Land Management, the strategic land subsidiary of Henry Boot and Commercial Estates Group formed a jv to develop the site.

Bob Brown, managing director of Hallam Land Management, said: ‘Features of the new scheme will include landscaping and tree planting, a children’s play area, open spaces, pedestrian and cycle routes, works of art and a wildlife haven.’

Detailed plans will be submitted to Durham City Council in 2008.
