A Somerset town is set for a major extension after a 40-acre mixed use scheme won planning this week.

The ‘New Horizons’ project in Minehead, Somerset, being promoted through a partnership between West Somerset Council, Somerset County Council and Somerset Primary Care Trust, will now go ahead.

The site will house 160 homes as well as health, sport and recreation facilities.

Alliance Planning, a planning consultancy, advised on the scheme and director Paul Ellingham said it was a major step towards building a new local centre for Minehead.

Aedas Architects and Hyder Consulting are also advising on the masterplan for the scheme.
