The Gwent Record Office, one of the largest archives in Wales, is to relocate to Ebbw Vale.

It will form the centre of a new £12m visitor attraction based around family history and geneaology at The General Offices at The Works:Ebbw Vale.

Deputy minister for regeneration Leighton Andrews said: ‘Family History is a growing industry and we want the Heads of the Valleys to benefit from this boom as people return to visit the areas from where their families came.

'The new history and genealogy visitor centre in Ebbw Vale, linked to the new Gwent Records Office, can be at the heart of this.'
