Hammerson has submitted its plans for an extension to Westmorland Retail Park in Cramlington, north of Newcastle.

The extension is the first stage of the Hammerson proposals for the wider regeneration of the whole Town Centre, which is being masterplanned by 3D Reid and is currently the subject of public consultation.

The submission is for three new retail units totalling 43,000 sq ft. It represents the first step in attracting more fashion oriented retailers to Cramlington.

The wider proposals include plans to bring in a department store, book shop and more fashion retailers, as well as a new cinema and bowling alley – all based around a series of new public spaces.

The application is expected to go before Blyth Valley Borough Council Planning Committee in October. If approved, work will start on site early in the New Year with completion scheduled for the end of 2008.
