Hammerson has submitted plans for its £100m Watermark West Quay development – the third phase of its West Quay shopping centre scheme in Southampton.

Hammerson wants to build a mixed use scheme on the 5 acre site next to the shopping centre, including 200,000 sq ft of retail, a tower with 150-200 flats, a 70,000 sq ft restaurant quarter and a cinema.

The site was formerly owned by Pirelli and Hammerson’s scheme will be built out in phases.

Cllr Royston Smith, Cabinet Member for Economic Development, said: ‘This planning application offers real prospects for the future. Southampton will strive to ensure that innovative projects like these are helped at every step of the way, as we intend to work hard to ensure that the £1.7bn city vision to reinvigorate its economy - stays on target.’
