Tim Besley, the most hawkish member of the Bank of England’s rate-setting Monetary Policy Committee, signalled that he now backed the Bank’s assessment that plunging world commodity prices would drive inflation below target next year, creating scope for still lower interest rates.
He also indicated that concerns over the inflationary impact from the plunging value of the pound were unlikely to be of concern in present conditions.
