The bank HBOS may build a hub for 6,000 of its employees in Edinburgh on the site of a former Scottish & Newcastle brewery in the city centre’s Fountainbridge area, which is being redeveloped as an extension of the financial district. Financial Times

The bank said the building would allow it to bring together employees spread across 16 sites in the Scottish capital, though the Bank of Scotland’s historic building on the Mound would continue to be headquarters for the group.

HBOS said it had entered into an exclusivity agreement with S&N to potentially acquire the land, though there was no certainty it would complete the transaction. Much is likely to depend on Edinburgh city council’s position on the plan.
