HCLG urges government to reform business rates and planning to save high streets

A Parliamentary committee has urged the government to reform business rates which it says are stacking the odds against high street retailers.

In its report on the Future of the High Street, the Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee said wide ranging reforms were needed in the face of changing consumer behaviour as “unfair business rates” tip the balance in favour of online retailers.
