Gerald Ronson’s Heron is being forced to redesign its Barbican tower scheme in the City after objections from the City of London planning committee.

The committee today referred back the scheme at Milton Court EC2 to the developer and called for ‘redesign considerations’.

Heron was selected as preferred developer for the £100m scheme by the City last year but the scheme has faced opposition from local residents of the Barbican estate and law firm Linklaters.

However the committee has not refused planning outright and has instead asked for a number of issues to be addressed around the design of the scheme and rights to light issues.

The council is generally in favour of the proposals for the scheme, that is bounded by Silk Street, Moor Lane, Milton Court and Milton Street, particularly elements including an extension to the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.
