Angry tenants have accused the department responsible for managing government properties of setting above-market rental rates on a building in Pok Fu Lam by raising rents about 50%.

Several residents of 122 Pokfulam Road, a former government staff quarters next to Queen Mary Hospital, said they would be forced to move out if the big jump in rents went ahead.

The rent increase comes despite property agents saying rents for upmarket residential properties have fallen 20% from levels two years ago because of the economic recession in the city.
