The administrator of music retailer Zavvi has sold 14 of the chain's shops to rival music chain HMV.

As tipped by Property Week last week a number of retailers are looking at packages of stores from the Zavvi portfolio including H&M and HMV.

The stores sold to Zavvi include units in Bournemouth Castlepoint, Salisbury, Southend, Glasgow Fort, Silverburn in Scotland and Dundrum and Liffey Valley in Ireland.

Ernst & Young is the firm dealing with the administration. Tom Jack, joint administrator of Zavvi UK at Ernst & Young, said: ‘269 employees will transfer across to HMV immediately and over the course of the next two weeks these Zavvi stores will be rebranded as HMV.’

Jack added: ‘We are continuing detailed discussions with a number of interested parties and are optimistic this could lead to the sale of further stores and retention of staff at a number of locations throughout the UK and Republic of Ireland.’

Zavvi continues to trade from 63 stores in the UK and 5 in the Republic of Ireland.
