Sources close to HMV confirmed that it was looking at bidding for some stores.

‘We are interested in specific sites if they complement our store portfolio,’ they said.

Ernst & Young has instructed Angermann Goddard & Loyd to sell half of Fopp’s 100 stores. ‘The original Fopp portfolio has some great sites and we’ve had interest from retailers across many sectors,’ Mark Talbot, a director at Angermann, said.

Talbot said he had offers on 50% of the portfolio.
