HNA Group co-founder and chairman Wang Jian has died as a result of an accident during a trip to Provence, France.

The company said in a statement: “HNA Group extends its deepest condolences to Mr Wang’s family and many friends. Together, we mourn the loss of an exceptionally gifted leader and role model, whose vision and values will continue to be a beacon for us all who had the good fortune to know him, as well as for the many others whose lives he touched through his work and philanthropy.”

HNA Group’s board and management team, led by co-founder and chairman Chen Feng and chief executive Adam Tan, confirmed the 57-year-old’s sudden death came as the result of an accident on a business trip.

In the UK, HNA Group is most well-known for having acquired the headquarters of Thomson Reuters in Canary Wharf in 2015.
