Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity Trust has got the go ahead for a residential led scheme next to its hospital near London Bridge.

Hazel Blears, the secretary of state for Communities and Local Government, has given approval to Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity Trust plans for the Founder’s Place development, opposite St Thomas’ Hospital.

The decision follows a 10 day inquiry into the rejection of the planning application by Lambeth council in April.

Arduous process
Geoff Shepherd, chief executive of Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity Trust, said: ‘It has been a long and arduous process. There is no doubt that it will be of great benefit to the local health service, as well as provide much needed regeneration of the local area.’

Designed by Terry Farrell and Partners the scheme includes 400 key worker homes, 45 affordable flats for local people and a patient hotel.
