Edward Ware Homes has pulled out of plans to redevelop the Greyfriars site in Gloucester.
The Bristol-based housebuilder was selected to redevelop the site on Brunswick Road by the site’s owner English Partnerships, in collaboration with the city council, the Gloucester Heritage Urban Regeneration Company and the Housing Corporation.
It planned to create 400 homes, 14,639 sq ft of commercial space and a neighbourhood resource centre at the site which used to be occupied by Gloucestershire College.
The development is to form part of a wider regeneration of 840 acres of land in the city centre that is being promoted by Gloucester Heritage.
Edward Ware’s spokesman said the adverse changes in the housing market meant it could no longer carry out the development.
It is thought that another developer Linden Homes is in talks to take over from Edward Ware.
