HSBC Investments has created a dedicated property multi manager fund team, it announced this week.

The seven-strong Real Estate Multimanager team has transferred internally from the HSBC Specialist Investments group, which deals with property and infrastructure investment.

The team will be headed up by Guy Morrell, reporting to global chief investment officer Joanna Munro, and it will be responsible for deciding which international property funds HSBC will invest in, as well as having the capability to provide specialist property mandates and fund of funds.

Morrell said: ‘HSBC Investments expects that it can enhance its clients risk/return profile by having the resources and expertise to research and select what it regards as the best property funds from throughout the world.

‘It is important to take a global approach to property fund selection as returns vary by country. Furthermore, real estate markets generally show low correlation to each other and to other asset classes.’
