The property industry is to call for a radical shake-up of the multibillion pound tax regime on commercial buildings to promote sustainability. Daily Telegraph
The first parliamentary inquiry into 'greening' existing office, retail and industrial buildings will today hear industry leaders demand the Government changes the way stamp duty and business rates are levied.
A sliding scale of tax charges on commercial property would see owners and occupiers of 'green' buildings pay less, while the most environmentally unfriendly would pay more. Landlords, occupiers and property consultants will tell the All Party Urban Development Group that the Government must act now if it is to affect the UK’s existing stock.
