Liam Carroll has closed two hotels in Ireland today after trading slumped and the businesses no longer remained viable.

Carroll, best known for his redevelopment of the Gasworks in the capital and securing Google as a tenant, has closed The Glashaus Hotel and the Tallaght Cross Hotel.

The 186-bedroom Tallaght Cross opened in February last year and cost €20m (£18.8m) to develop. Its sister hotel, the 48-bedroom Glashaus, opened in September 2007.

Both hotels form part of the Tallaght Cross town centre. Trading has declined at the hotels, despite a sharp reduction in rates during the past six months to attract customers.

It is not clear what will happen to the two buildings now.
