John Lewis and Waitrose sign as anchor tenants for Croydon Westfield development

Westfield croydon development night scene

The joint venture between Westfield and Hammerson has secured a co-located John Lewis department store and Waitrose supermarket as the anchor tenant for their £1.4bn redevelopment of the Whitgift Centre.

The 165,000 sq ft, four-level John Lewis shop, which will incorporate a Waitrose on the ground floor, represents a significant investment by the John Lewis Partnership in Croydon town centre.

The joint development secured by The Croydon Partnership is the first time ever that John Lewis and Waitrose stores have co-existed under one roof. The full-line department store and supermarket will be a ‘showcase store’ for the two brands.
