Land Securities has submitted a planning application for the £100m re-development of the St John’s Centre in Liverpool.
LandSecs plans an extension and refurbishment to increase the 360,590 sq ft centre to total 478,998 sq ft.
The new design incorporates a double-height retail mall which will add a further 91,500 sq ft of retail space to attract new retailers to the centre.
The existing food court area will be relocated to a new catering area at the first-floor level overlooking Clayton Square.
Also part of the plans the St John’s Market, which was established in 1822, will be relocated to a purpose built Market Hall situated at Williamson Square.
LandSecs originally built the centre in 1969.
LandSecs is aiming to attract both value and mid market shoppers to the centre with the kinds of retailers at the scheme.
It is anticipated that the new scheme will be completed in spring 2012.
