The Royal Opera could soon have a second home in Manchester, according to the city council.

The company, based in London’s Covent Garden, is in the early stages of talks with officials about establishing a presence for the Royal Opera and the Royal Ballet in the Palace Theatre, Manchester.

An agreement has been reached in principle with Live Nation, the owner of the theatre, to use the building for tuition, rehearsals and performances. 'While there is a still a lot of work to do, we think we have a compelling proposition,' said Sir Howard Bernstein, Manchester City Council chief executive.
