The Ridings celebrated the completion of a multi-million pound makeover with an official ribbon cutting ceremony conducted by the city’s mayor.

The Ridings officially unveiled a host of structural and cosmetic changes including three new glass entrances, a re-designed food court complete with new feature lifts, a new café and improvements to the public realm at Cathedral Walk.

The mayor was joined by Wakefield council members and local business representatives for the ceremony, which was held at the centre’s brand new Café Lavazza. Guests were treated to a sumptuous reception with delicious afternoon tea canapés, accompanied by classical music from local harpist, Fiona-Katie Roberts.

Mayor of Wakefield, Cllr Jacqui Williams, said: 'It was a real honour to officially open the new look Ridings.

'During these difficult economic times, it is great to not only see people investing money, but investing in Wakefield to ultimately improve business and retail opportunties for citizens for years to come.'
