North-west developer Neptune Developments has won planning for its £42m redevelopment of a town just outside Liverpool.

Neptune got outline planning consent last night from the Wirral Council to start its second phase of redevelopments at New Brighton, a seaside resort on the Mersey.

The proposals are in addition to the work already underway in the town, including the redevelopment of the Floral Pavilion Theatre and the new Town Square with cafes and 37 apartments.

Neptune can now submit detailed planning applications for the scheme and then begin the next phase of redevelopment.

It will comprise a hotel, a year-round spa, a cinema, supermarket and car park.

The new proposals deal with the issues raised by the Secretary of State following last year’s planning inquiry, and all statutory bodies and local groups have been consulted.

Neptune development director Rob Mason said it had been a long journey to reach this stage, and resolved to press on with the scheme to secure the town’s future.
