Westminster Council is to establish a new planning sub committee to deal with the large amount of major schemes it is expected to face this year.
The creation of the Planning Sub-Committee (Planning Briefs and Local Development Framework) is in response to the ‘significant additional workload’ being handled by the council’s Planning and City Development Committee – which handles all major schemes.
‘There has been a concern over recent months about the growing pressure on the agenda of the Planning and City Development Committee arising from the number of major schemes coming forward and the extra pressure arising from the consideration of planning briefs,’ said a report obtained by Property Week.
‘During the coming year there are expected to be reports on the six CrossRail sites, three sites for adult education provision, Victoria and a number of others which will create a significant additional workload.
‘The setting up of a new Planning Sub-Committee will enable the City Council to reduce pressure on the agenda of the Planning and City Development Committee and by implication ensure the continued smooth running of the development planning process in Westminster.’
The five person committee will be chaired by the Planning and City Development Committee chair councillor Alistair Moss.
