The Office of Fair Trading is taking Foxtons to court over whether it is unfairly charging landlords. The case that may alter how rental commissions are imposed across the sector. Financial Times
The OFT said yesterday it was bringing the action after complaints over Foxtons’ letting arrangements, which can allow the company to collect substantial fees on properties it no longer rents or manages.
The consumer watchdog is seeking a court order to rule that those terms are unlawful. If successful, the OFT says it will seek to enforce the ruling across the industry. Foxtons says its commissions are fair and is contesting the OFT’s case.
