Research from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) has suggested that only 30% of units delivered through permitted development rights meet national space standards.
The government has continued to significantly expand permitted development rights for residential conversions with a series of regulation changes since 2005, including encouraging the conversion of industrial, office and agricultural buildings to housing.
