Peel’s Durham Tees Valley Airport hotel plans

The £8.5m three-star hotel will be located around 300 metres from the airport terminal building and will be Peel`s third airport hotel. The operator has not been announced yet but Peel said it will ‘be operated under a franchise agreement with a well known international brand’.

Peel, founded by north west entrepreneur John Whittaker, has a 103 bedroom Ramada Encore hotel at Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield, which opens in November of this year. It also plans a 160 bedroom-hotel at Liverpool’s John Lennon Airport which should open in spring next year.

Hotel strategy

Peter de la Perrelle, leisure director at Peel Holdings, said: ‘This new hotel continues Peel`s re-focused strategy of owning and operating its hotel investments with international brands as its partners. On completion the hotel will represent a quality addition to the airports facilities and we look forward to being part of the successful development of Durham Tees Valley Airport in the years to come’.

Kerry Quinn, Durham Tees Valley Airport director, said: ‘Passengers enjoy both the opportunity to sleep on the airport's doorstep before an early morning flight and also having a room to sleep in if they arrive late at night from a flight.’
