A new £100m development in Glasgow Harbour has secured planning approval from Glasgow City Council.
Lifestyle Outlets, part of John Whittaker’s Peel Land and Property, will bring forward the scheme, which offers a mix of retail, food and drink, leisure, a multiplex cinema, and public spaces for events.
It is expected to take 36-months to build and discussions are being launched with prospective retailers and leisure occupiers.
Plans include some 215,278 sq ft of retail, 107,639 sq ft of leisure, and 43,055 sq ft for restaurants and pubs.
The developer currently owns and operates similar schemes at Gloucester Quays and MediaCityUK, Manchester. Both locations have a calendar of public events, such as food festivals, markets, and live fashion shows, which Lifestyle Outlets hopes to replicate at Glasgow Harbour.
“Retail has evolved beyond recognition in recent years and our aim is to create a new generation of outlet shopping destinations which have leisure and entertainment at their heart,” said Lifestyle Outlets’ managing director, Jason Pullen.
“We are delighted to have secured permission for a development which we believe will be complementary and supportive to Glasgow’s growing international reputation as a major retail, leisure and events destination,” Pullen added.
