The Newcastle College Group has submitted plans for a £35m campus at Skelmersdale and Ormskirk College in West Lancashire.

The redevelopment of the college is part of the regeneration of Skelmersdale, situated between Liverpool and Manchester. The 12,500 sq m college will house up to 4,000 students.

The new campus, designed by architects RMJM, will compliment the five buildings that RMJM has completed for Newcastle College’s main campus.

RMJM director Paul Rodgers, said: ‘Our proposal for Skelmersdale and Ormskirk College will provide a wholly sustainable campus at an environmental, social and economic level.’

Beverly Robinson, principal at Skelmersdale and Ormskirk College, said: ‘We are delighted to be a part of the new Town Centre development – Skelmersdale Vision.’

Construction of the new campus is due to start in March 2000, with the college scheduled to open in September 2010.
