An outline planning application for the £600m regeneration of the Sirocco Quays site in Belfast has been submitted by Carvill Group.

The plans for the 16 acre former engineering works in the city centre site include homes for 5,000 people, retail, offices, a 5 star hotel, care home, nursery, leisure facilities, a supermarket and cafes and restaurants.

Carvill, with advise from planning and urban design consultancy Turley Associates, also plans a waterfront public realm area and public squares.

Carvill bought the site near the Short Strand area of the city in September 2006 from William Ewart Properties and joint venture partner Snoddens for £40m.
