The British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC), owner of Silverstone, will this week unveil plans to redevelop the racetrack in an effort to retain the British Grand Prix. Sunday Times
The masterplan for the Northamptonshire track includes a new driver training centre, the Porsche Driving Experience Centre, where purchasers of new Porsches will ne able to receive tuition on their cars’ performance and safety features.
The centre will occupy a 10.2 ha plot and is expected to receive planning permission this month to be operational by summer 2008.
The BRDC, which elected Damon Hill as its president last year, is seeking £30m from investors to upgrade the circuit's grandstands, and add a new pit and paddock complex, corporate hospitality facilities and a test centre for car manufacturers.
The masterplan also has non-racing features, such as a hotel and conference centre and some residential property.
