Progress Property Developments has today submitted a planning application for Glasgow’s first six-star hotel, The Argyle International.

The 158-suite hotel will have 68 adjoining serviced apartments and facilities including a 630-seat banqueting suite, conference centre and health spa.

The 344,000 sq ft scheme on Argyle Street has been designed by Ian Simpson Architects.

All the hotel bedrooms will have a minimum floor area of 400 sq ft and more than a third of the rooms are executive suites.

The owners of the adjoining flats will have direct access to the hotel and its services.

Charles Price, chief executive of Progress Property Developments, said: ‘We are calling this six-star on purpose, because we wanted to demonstrate it is way above the current five-star offering in Glasgow.

‘We’re not trying to emulate the Dubai effect, but cater for business travellers and people with high aspirations.’

Price hopes to secure planning permission by the end of the year, with the hotel being operational by the end of 2009.
