ProLogis is set to build 1.2m sq ft of bespoke warehousing for one the USA’s biggest home furnishings retailers.

The industrial giant has agreed two new build-to-suit agreements with Crate & Barrel for distribution centres in Tracy, California.

The facilities will be the first developments at ProLogis Park Tracy II, a 160 acre site which could hold more than 2.8m sq ft in total.

The first warehouse, comprising 827,000 sq ft, will be used by Crate & Barrel to store its furniture products. The second, comprising 398,000 sq ft, will be used as a distribution hub for its homewares products. Crate & Barrel is consolidating its Northern California distribution hubs into the new bases.

Emerging distribution location

Pat Cavanagh, senior vice president and Pacific regional director for ProLogis, said: ‘This region is emerging as an ideal distribution location for local, regional and national supply chain networks.’

Both facilities will be built according to the United States Green Building Council’s LEED certification.

John Ling, vice president of supply chain management and logistics at Crate & Barrel, said: ‘Not only was ProLogis flexible in providing new distribution space that would accommodate our business expansion needs, they were able to support our sustainability goals as well.’
