Property legend Martin Birrane dies aged 82

Martin Birrane

Martin Birrane, the Irish businessman and owner of Peer Group and the Mondello Park racetrack, has died at the age of 82.

Birrane acquired a major shareholding in Peer Properties, later renamed Peer Group, in 1983 and became the company’s chairman and managing director. Under Birrane’s stewardship the Peer Group portfolio grew to its current value of £190m. But he was equally well known for his interests outside the property industry.
