The Property Market will recover by the end of 2009 according to a poll of Property Week readers - although voting was almost equally split between 2009 and 2010.

Asked to predict when the property sector would bounce back from its current woes and faced with options ranging from the end of 2008, mid 2009, the end of 2009 and 2010 or beyond, Property Week readers chose the end of next year - but it was close.

In the end more than 31% of the hundreds who voted thought the property sector would recover at the end of 2009.

However, 30% were more optimistic predicting that the sector would bounce back by the middle of next year - only 12 months from now.

A similar number - 28.5% - could not see a way out of the gloom until 2010 at the earliest.

Only 10% of those who took part in the poll thought the gloom would clear by the end of this year.
