The leaders of three leading retail and property groups have written to the Chancellor Rishi Sunak calling on the government to underwrite retail rents as store groups and landlords suffer in the Covid-19 health outbreak.
Helen Dickinson, chief executive of the British Retail Consortium, Melanie Leech, chief executive of the British Property Federation, and Vivienne King, chief executive of Revo, told Sunak their sectors “employ over 3m people and constitute 5% of the UK economy” before welcoming the Government’s 100% rates relief for the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors.
