Planners in Rome have approved plans for a museum sector to rival the Louvre in Paris. The Times

The 6 ha (15 acre) 'Great Campidoglio' quarter will take in the Colosseum, the Imperial Forums and the Campidoglio.

Several buildings will be converted into museum space. In the first phase, to be started within months, around 5,000 city workers will move out of a site near the Circo Massimo that will house the Roman Civilisation collections.
