The prep school of Prince George and Princess Charlotte is expanding after it bought the historic Royal Academy of Dance headquarters next door.
Thomas’s School will open a new 40,000 sq ft school at 36 Battersea Square called Thomas’s Battersea Square by spring 2022. It is planned to open following a refurbishment of the building.
The school will have 28 classrooms including science laboratories, break-out spaces, a study centre, assembly hall, cafeteria, and dining hall.
South London developer Avanton is selling the former dance academy to make way for the development. The Royal Academy of Dance will take up its new home in a 70,000 sq ft £260m mixed-use development by Avanton on York Road in February 2021.
A prestigious private prep school, Thomas’s School is a major feeder school for British public schools including Eton, Harrow, and Marlborough.
“Subject to obtaining the necessary consents, the agreement we have negotiated will lead to a substantial refurbishment of the current site, with occupancy in the summer of 2022,” said the Thomas’s School website.
