Savills has poached Aviva European finance boss Mark Dearsley to take on the role of group finance director.

Dearsley will join the board of Savills as an executive director from 3 September.

He joins from the insurance group Aviva, where he has worked since 1998. He was finance director for Aviva Europe and International, responsible for strategy, business development and risk for a division comprising 20 international businesses with operating profits of £1.9bn.

Until late 2004, Dearsley was group mergers and acquisitions director at Aviva. Before starting there, he held several roles at investment bank Charterhouse Bank Limited, including becoming a board director in 1996.

Aubrey Adams, group chief executive of Savills plc said he expected Dearsley’s experience in Europe would be of great value as the property company grows overseas.
