South Ayrshire Council has granted planning consent to the University of the West of Scotland for its £70m Ayr campus.
The 193,800 sq ft campus, designed by architect RMJM, will be built on the Craigie Estate, next to the River Ayr.
Construction will start in September.
The new campus will also provide facilities for the nearby Scottish Agricultural College at Auchincruive.
There will be a number of shared facilities, including general teaching space, a gym, library, lecture theatre, drama studio and computer labs.
The new campus in Ayr, which is part of the University’s £260m development programme, will create educational space for 4000 students.
Professor Seamus McDaid, principal and vice chancellor of the University of the West of Scotland, said: ‘We are delighted that our exciting Ayr Campus development has received the full support of South Ayrshire Council and that we are now one step closer to the creation of this unique campus facility.’
