Sports Cafe is to try to open bars on smaller sites in an attempt to stem losses that grew to £1.7m last year. Financial Times.

Sports Cafe operates eight venues with bars, restaurants and large-sized screens devoted to sports events. The the 15,000 sq ft venues each hold about 1,000 people but Sports Cafe said there are only a limited number of cities could provide sites for the model, so it is now to focus on smaller sites and complementary brands.

The group reported sales of 29% to £18.2m and reduced losses from continuing operations of £553,000 (£692,000).

Ian Lenagan, chairman of Sports Cafe, said: 'We anticipate expanding the business both organically and through acquisitive options.'
