Mike Ashley’s retail group has already snapped up independents such as Gilesports and Hargreaves and, in July, bought a 60% stake in English outdoor clothing chain Field & Trek, in addition to owning 30 brands, which include rucksack label Karrimor, US boxing equipment manufacturer Everlast, Umbro, Adidas and Amer Sports, the Finnish firm that owns the ski brand Salomon.
