Sunderland arc has submitted plans for the first stage of a £130m regeneration project in the city.

Phase one of the three stage Farringdon Row scheme on the Western edge of Sunderland will feature 70,000 sq ft of offices, 124 apartments and 3,600 sq ft of retail space, and aims to create 450 new jobs.

If planning permission is received, work will start on site at the beginning of next year.

The overall scheme, to be completed over the next 10 years, will provide further housing, retail and leisure space, as well as landscaping and improved public spaces.

Sunderland arc (Sunderland Area Regeneration Company) was set up in 2002 as part of the government sponsored Urban Renaissance scheme in order to aid with the regeneration of the area following the closure of the Grove Cranes works and Vaux Brewery in the area.
