Sustainable development is to be given the same level of importance as improving the supply and quality of housing in an amendment to the housing and regeneration bill to be tabled today. Financial Times

The change, which will be debated in parliament, will coincide with the first day in office of Sir Bob Kerslake, head of the new Housing and Communities Agency and the man with responsibility for Gordon Brown’s housing agenda.

Kerslake said sustainability should be at the heart of the work of the HCA to ensure that developments were more than just a short-term fix.
