Edinburgh’s beleaguered banking sector was boosted yesterday when Tesco’s finance arm said it would create more than 200 new jobs in the Scottish capital.

The jobs will be at the UK headquarters of Tesco Personal Finance, which already employs 250 people in Edinburgh. It was launched in 1997 as a joint venture between Tesco and Royal Bank of Scotland, but the retailer bought out RBS’s share for £950m in December.
