Thames Gateway regeneration project chief Judith Armitt has quit as chief executive barely one year into the job. Financial Times, The Times
Armitt’s departure from the Thames Gateway Delivery Unit had been the subject of rumour as early as last week among those connected with Europe’s largest regeneration project.
Armitt, a former chief executive of Medway council, was appointed to lead the project in November 2006 in response to accusations of a lack of vision for the scheme.
Reports suggest that Armitt who took up the post late last year, had clashed with Yvette Cooper, the Housing Minister, over the delivery plan.
An unnamed senior Thames Gateway source was quoted as saying: 'It has been a fiasco. Yvette is unhappy. The plans from a week ago had to be torn up.'
