The Mall has submitted plans for a £150m extension to make its Luton shopping centre one of the UK’s largest.
If the plans are approved, the development will add 400,000 sq ft of retail space to The Mall Luton. It will then total over 1.2m sq ft.
Morley Fund Management and Capital & Regional, managers of The Mall, have also signed up TK Maxx to be the anchor tenant at the £20m St George’s Square development, taking a 38,000 sq ft store.
Luton Gateway
The Mall says that the proposals for the extension will extend the town’s prime shopping area towards the railway station to integrate with the council’s proposed Luton Gateway regeneration scheme.
The Gateway is the name of the planned redevelopment of the bus station and inner ring roads at Luton.
The Mall redevelopment will also add 10,760 sq ft of office space, 124 flats, parking and a public square.
Kenneth Ford, chief executive of The Mall said: ‘Following extensive consultation, we believe our proposals offer the best solution for Luton, providing a larger, brighter and more modern shopping environment where retailers will want to take space and shoppers will want to spend time.’
