The Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation has bought an 11 acre development site in Purfleet as a part of the regeneration of the area.

Thurrock TGDC paid £6m for the East of England Development Agency site at Botany Way – near Purfleet train station.

The corporation is looking to create a new mixed-use scheme around the station featuring retail, residential and commercial space.

Long term regeneration

Tom Gardiner, director of delivery at the development corporation, said the buy was a major step in the long term regeneration of Thurrock.

The corporation was set up by the government in 2003 to cover Thurrock as a part of the wider regeneration of the Thames Gateway.

Thurrock TGDC is currently developing a the Purfleet Centre Development Brief which will propose improved access to public spaces and the riverfront, and new facilities such as a primary school, health centre and police station.
